4 Ways to Overcome Bestie Envy

You know that ugly feeling you sometimes get when your bestie is doing great and you’re not? I can’t tell you how to never feel that, but I can tell you how to get past it when it comes.

You definitely don’t want to be her, but it’s hard to be all in when you feel like she’s shining and you’re not.

1

Celebrate her on the outside.

I’m not encouraging manipulation or dishonesty here but: fake the feeling. While you cannot deny the fact that your bestie is awesome, you’re not feeling like that right now. You want your greatness on display, but that’s not what’s happening. Fake the feeling. Show that you’re happy for her. Encourage her and tell her how great she is because, even though you don’t feel it right now, you know she’s great.

2

Celebrate yourself on the inside.

Take inventory of your undeniable awesomeness and dwell on it for a minute. Then: do not voice it externally. Fight the insecurity that makes you want to steal her thunder by showcasing yourself in her moment.

3

Recognize it’s not your time right now.

Remember when you were 7 and went to a birthday party? Your mom probably told you not to be upset that you weren’t getting gifts because…(wait for it)…it’s not your birthday! Same thing here. It’s not your time to shine, so wait your turn.

4

Work and wait with expectation until your time comes.

Don’t let your emotions get you off your grind. Keep being your awesome self, knowing that your moment is coming and actively look forward to it.
